Author of ten books

Nancy Hawse

I write books so you don't have to make eye contact on the train. They're about quiet strength, the superpowers we pretend we don't have, and the strange comfort of not being alone.

The background

Who's writing all this

Mrs. Nancy Hawse is the author of tens of books and survivor of roughly forty-two drafts of every one of them. She writes about resilience, inner strength, and the quiet superpowers we spend most of our lives pretending we don't have, right up until the moment we absolutely need them.

My books began as notes I wrote to myself on hard days, which is awkward, because now strangers read them. Somewhere along the way the notes turned into stories, the stories turned into books, and the books turned into a small, stubborn community of people who agree that being human is a group project.

When I'm not writing, I'm probably reorganizing a bookshelf that was fine, walking somewhere I could've driven, or explaining to the cat why she can't sit on the keyboard during a deadline. She does not listen. None of my best characters do, either.
